Describing personality in IELTS Speaking Part 2

If you take a closer look at the kind of topics that commonly come up in IELTS Speaking Part 2, you will probably notice something very similar. Quite often, you may be asked to describe a person, and questions around this theme actually appeared on several occasions like the examples given below:

  • Describe a friend of your family you remember from your childhood – from Cambridge IELTS 8
  • Describe a teacher who has influenced you in your education from Cambridge IELTS 3
  • Describe a well-known person you like or admire – from Cambridge IELTS 5
  • Describe one of your friends – from Cambridge IELTS 5

Now, you could approach this question type from a few different angles:

  1. The person
    • physical appearance (eg. hair, height, physique, colour of eyes, complexion, etc)
    • personality (eg. cheerful, kind, shy, etc)
  2. Their job
  3. Their hobbies
  4. Their personal life
    • Family life (eg. Are they married? Do they have children? etc)
    • Social life (eg. Are they popular? etc)

It would be a good idea to gather as much vocabulary as possible to do this easily. For a start, you can have a look at this website:
